About The Dynamics Mindset

The Dynamics Mindset is a state of mind. And now this is my Dynamics blog post!

Welcome!

For me, this is about having an undying passion for my favorite Microsoft Dynamics ERP products - Dynamics GP (Great Plains) and Dynamics 365 BC (Business Central) - and the reporting that goes along with them.

The Dynamics Mindset is that zen-like place and feeling where I am always looking for answers, thinking about solutions, reading about features, noodling what-ifs, demoing how things work, drawing out process flows, assisting with pre-sales efforts, providing technical support, and trying to keep an eye on all the new technology and enhancements at the same time. Always. 24/7/365 (yes, that pun was intended!)

My enlightened journey to The Dynamics Mindset began as an end user of Great Plains back before Y2K. Once it got started however, there was no looking back. I learned everything I could about the core modules and how they all interacted with each other and why. Then I got into all the other more complex modules too. At this point, I have probably checked out every feature and upgraded every single version of GP since then. I have even written and provide annual updates to a Power BI report about all the “What’s New” features in GP across the last 10+ years. Intrinsically having a lot of passion for reporting and analysis, I wrote a book about Management Reporter for GP, but when Power BI came out, it was game over! I had found the ultimate solution for reporting. Ever.

My overall favorite topics and areas of study and expertise have always been around financial reporting, system administration, ease of use and adoption, and building integration solutions. I have been honored to present in many national and regional Microsoft Dynamics conferences for GP, BC and Power BI. I cherish the ability to contribute additional time to the Program Committee for the Summit conference for both GP and BC. I was floored in 2023 when I received the Legends Award in front of an endless sea of Dynamics-minded people. Networking with ISVs, users and partners, and learning from the best and the brightest in the Dynamics world, puts fuel in my tank and solutions on the table for my team. I’ve also contributed to user group webinars and published articles for industry publications. I am forever grateful for the entire Dynamics Community!!

Recently a good friend and well-known community leader and volunteer in the Dynamics space reached out and asked me where my blog was, or where I shared all of the things I’ve learned from the past 25+ years of Microsoft Dynamics online. Truly honored to have been asked, we got talking. “I’ve got nothing on that. It’s all in my head, my blood and sweat, in work papers, support cases, meeting notes, whiteboard sessions, other people’s web links in my various browsers, and even the trash or possibly, my firepit.” We had another chance to meet again, where we followed up on what it all meant to support the endeavor, and how she got started. She and others granted me their helpful advice and the encouragement I needed to just get started on getting my thoughts and ideas out of my head, and out into the Universe.

This site and my subsequent blog posts and content, are intended to help provide context and explanations in my own words about GP, BC, Power BI and ERP-related reporting topics, where I think I could lend a hand, or bring about clarity for the curious, a user or even a key decision maker.

If this is a stop on your Dynamics journey, thanks for coming by. I hope you enjoy engaging in The Dynamics Mindset with me.
