Dynamics GP Lifecycle Update, and a Spotify Playlist for GP and BC

I can’t say the recent Dynamics GP Lifecycle update caught me too much by surprise. But in case you haven’t heard yet, GP has 5~7 more years to live on with support and updates. Microsoft has been signaling their investment priorities are truly cloud-driven (for good reason!), and even two years ago confessed to no longer prioritizing much in the way of net-new investment in the GP product.

Good news/bad news for Payroll users in the US and Canada, as you are the most impacted by the discontinuation of support and compliance updates.

Naturally my feelings about all of this run deep. I’ve known GP for 25+ years, but have also been going pretty steady with Business Central for 6 years now too. I love them both, and will continue to do so. The GP Team in Fargo has been truly amazing at providing us with an incredible ERP product, and I continue to be grateful for all who I encountered there over the years, many still in the GP channel!

I want to celebrate the fact we now know when the end is coming, however the ‘END’ of GP is truly hard to define.

I know plenty of environments out there still are running 10-15 year old GP versions (2010 and 2013), which by extension, could indicate GP might still be alive and working fine for some companies 20 years from now (2044).

This could especially be true for those who end up on the very last version before sunset truly begins on Great Plains as we know it from Fargo.

I read a lot of blogs these past 2 weeks from various people in the GP community and I share in their collective loss, but really look forward to the 1:1 conversations that will be had at Summit in the next week, and over the next 10 years as well. We’ve all been talking for a long time about when this day would come.

I’m excited to continue the trajectory I’ve started with TheDynamicsMindset and help GP users get to BC. I’ve got a number of wild ideas that I’ll continue working on to get the news out and assist people along their journey. If you haven’t see it yet, check out the GP-to-BC Table Comparisons so you can start looking over your master records.

For now Conference Season is upon us. My presentations are ready, I can honestly say I’ve been playing more with Copilot this time when I arrive.

It’s time to put the top down, take a ride to Community Summit in San Antonio, and jam along to my DYNAMICS GP and BC PLAYLISTS…..enjoy!
